| | excited | ] | Yay Christmas! Lots, and I mean LOTS of presents are under the tree, the house is really festive without going over the top, and we're gonna have great food tonight.
As Christmas is only about good food and presents (Giving being even slightly more fun than getting), this is one of my fav holidays. Sure, it's just another shopkeepers dream and has absolutely nothing to do with the birth of anyone important (as Jesus was most likely born somewhere in november, if I remember correctly), but I still like it.
It's the closest we got to a white Christmas too, with some frozen water (used to be snow) still adorning some houses and the sides of the streets.
My sweet gf Anja has 14 gifts for me, which is WAY too much to say the least... But I'll get her back on her birthday, you just wait.
In any case: Merry Christmas to all! I wish all of you great food and cool gifts! :-D |

| | impressed | ] | Well, I just came back from James Cameron's Avatar. There's only one word: "WOW!"
The story is actually quite good, even if it's a classic "people will be relocated by technologically more advanced assholes who just want the land to make money." The characters are believable, well done, and as far as the Na'vi go: very impressive.
The world is really well thought of. All the fauna and flora work well together. It's a hostile place, but really beautiful and once again: very impressive.
What made the whole experience even better was the 3-D. I'm not into 3-D films. Usually, they give me a headache, they're still off, or they don't add anything to the movie. I saw "Up" in 3-D (by accident) and I don't get why I payed more for it, even though Up is what we expect from Pixar: brilliant. This time, I stood in awe. The way this 3-D is handled left me breathless several times. When they fly through the floating mountains or the foliage, you sometimes really think a branch will hit you.
Randall's Verdict: this is the most spectacular films I've seen this year, and it has a believable story on an alien world? Oh yeah. As soon as this hits the Blu-Ray stands, I'll be there to get my copy. |
